Topsy-turvy comic operas for the masses

We see a G&S production every year, and are always very entertained. The Society has some of the best local actors and singers, and the sets and costumes are first-rate. Their production of The Pirates of Penzance was one of the best I’ve ever seen. The director chose to replace the Victorian ladies’ dresses with flapper-syle outfits, and gave the show a more modern edge – very cleverly done. I look forward to their upcoming season! If you're afraid of opera or live theatre, G&S is a great way to become acquainted with it - it's bawdy, fun, tongue-in-cheek, and always seems relevant for the times.
